First American Edition, first issue, with a Preface by Owen Wister. Publisher's blue cloth with blind framed gilt Crusader motif to the front board and gilt lettering to spine. Clear, removable, protective archival cover fitted to the dust-jacket. Small Octavo. pp. [8] 236 [1 page advert, verso blank]. Small label for The Times Book Club at foot of rear pastedown. Inscription to the front free endpaper identifying Marjorie Burge as a former owner and stating "This story first read by me in May 1929 after the birth of my daughter Mary..." The obituary of Mary is laid in, TOGETHER WITH a two page typewritten account of the surrender of Jerusalem by an eye-witness AND a four page handwritten letter dated 4th June 1931 signed by Graham Kidd of Strathmore, Camberley, Surrey who "was in command of the Allied Guard, British, French, Italian and Indian Mussalmans".

Condition

A book in Very Good condition indeed, with the very uncommon red printed dust-jacket with fading to spine, two small ink stains to the front panel, and the neat removal of price from the spine and front flap.
