Copy number '128' of the English edition limited to 400 copies, translated by R.H. Boothroyd. A facsimile of the treatise of about 1460 by Felice Feliciano (1443-79) on the geometrical construction of Roman capital letters (Codex Vat. lat. 6852). Book label of Ruari McLean on the front pastedown. Set in Giovanni Mardersteig's Dante type and printed on his handpress on paper made by Fratelli Magnani, Pescia. Original quarter dark brown morocco over paper covered boards, Officina Bodoni device blocked in gold on the upper board, gilt lettering to spine, original decorated slipcase. Octavo, pp. [2, blank] [half-title] [blank] [title page] [copyright page] [contents] [blank] [Introduction] 9-137 [138] [blank] [colophon] [2, blank]. 25 letters of the alphabet from the original initials written by Feliciano, all coloured by hand by Ameglio Trivella after the original manuscripts. Illustrations in the text and five heliogravure plates of ancient manuscripts. TOGETHER WITH the single prospectus leaf and The Times Literary Supplement review for April 26, 1963, both loosely inserted. Of the 400 copies of the English edition, 50 were bound in full brown oasis morocco. There were editions of 160 copies each in German and Italian. Feliciano's Alphabetorum Romanum was "the first treatise on the construction of classic roman inscription letters and also represents the first attempt to construct them within a circle and square" (prospectus).
